Empowering Communities Through Multi Storey Gardening Training-Greenmax Segment

Introduction

On 21st October 2024, GreenMax Solutions, in partnership with Rotary Club, Kericho, held an engaging and hands-on training on multistorey gardening at Chesanga, Kipchebor ward, Kericho County. The session was designed to empower participants with practical knowledge on space-efficient, sustainable gardening techniques, promoting food security and environmental conservation. This initiative aligns closely with Rotary’s vision of community service through impactful, eco-friendly practices.

Key Highlights from the Training

Introduction to Multistorey Gardening

Participants were introduced to the concept and benefits of multistorey gardening, particularly its ability to produce food in small urban or peri-urban spaces. Trainers from GreenMax emphasized how the method addresses challenges such as limited land, water scarcity, and the need for diversified food production.

Construction and Practical Demonstration

A major highlight of the day was the hands-on construction of a multistorey garden using locally available materials. Participants actively engaged in setting up tiered beds and vertical gardening structures. The demo garden, established during the session, was left on-site as a live learning hub for future reference and community inspiration.

Soil Preparation, Composting & Irrigation

GreenMax’s trainers walked the participants through organic soil preparation, composting techniques, and efficient irrigation methods—all geared towards maintaining healthy gardens with minimal environmental impact. Special emphasis was placed on water conservation and organic pest control.

Environmental Awareness and Community Impact

The training went beyond gardening—it sparked broader conversations on climate-smart agriculture and community outreach. Members discussed how these techniques could be incorporated into Rotary’s ongoing environmental initiatives, schools, and neighborhood projects.

Active Participation and Exchange of Ideas

Rotary Club members were fully engaged throughout the training. Their enthusiasm during the interactive sessions and practical demos highlighted a collective eagerness to adopt multistorey gardening not only in personal spaces but also as part of the club’s community service agenda.

Gratitude and Way Forward

Participants expressed sincere appreciation to GreenMax for the impactful training. The session was praised for offering practical solutions, bridging knowledge gaps, and building capacity in a way that’s both accessible and sustainable.

GreenMax’s Contribution to Sustainable Farming Education

This training reaffirmed GreenMax’s role as a key partner in promoting agricultural innovation and climate-resilient practices. The event planted more than seeds in the soil—it cultivated ideas, action plans, and a renewed commitment to growing green communities.

The Role of Multistorey Gardening in Sustainable Agriculture

Multistorey gardening offers a smart, sustainable way to grow food—especially where space and resources are limited. By using vertical space, it helps increase crop yields, conserve water, recycle organic waste, and boost household nutrition. It’s ideal for urban areas and small plots, making it a key tool in the fight against food insecurity and climate change.
